①Is it true that you have learnt English for many years but still can't understand a native(土生土长的) English speaker? And do you find that native speakers say a lot of things, but you can't find them in any dictionary? Well, don't worry. A lot of British people can't understand each other, either!
②There are different local accents(口音) across the UK, and different places have several different accents. There were at least six different accents in London the last time I counted.
③Worse than that, it is not just where a person is born in the UK that influences(影响) his or her accent. For example, a language and its accents often change across class or level of education. Another example is how language can be different among age groups in the UK. The words and pronunciation used by young people in the UK can be different from those used by adults. They are creating a “yoof culture”.
④The word “yoof” is an informal(非正式) spelling of “youth”. Some people don't see “yoof” as a good word since its pronunciation is easier and lazier than “youth”. Other people see it as good, because it describes how young people are creating “identity”, a feeling of belonging to a group and knowing who you are.
⑤When parents find it difficult to understand their children, the children can say more things without the checking of their parents. In this way, young people are starting to find more freedom. Even though some people feel worried about “yoof culture”, new words come and go like fashions.
⑥So learners should have no fear about communicating with native speakers. Even British people don't speak English properly! The UK no longer owns the English language.

答案: 1. B 推理判断题。根据第一段“Is it true that you have learnt English for many years but still can't understand a native English speaker? And do you find that native speakers say a lot of things, but you can't find them in any dictionary?”可知,作者通过问题引起读者对英语学习的思考,可推断作者是为了让读者对文章感兴趣,故选 B。
2. A 细节理解题。根据第二段“There are different local accents across the UK,and different places have several different accents.”可知,一个人的出生地会影响他的口音。故选 A。
3. B 篇章结构题。文章第一段是引入文章主题:很多英国人也不能互相理解对方的话;第二段到第五段介绍了导致英国人不能互相理解对方话的原因;最后一段再次点明主题,呼应首段,因此文章是总—分—总结构。故选 B。
4. C 推理判断题。根据最后一段“So learners should have no fear about communicating with native speakers. Even British people don't speak English properly! The UK no longer owns the English language.”和第一段“Well, don't worry. A lot of British people can't understand each other, either!”可知,很多英国人也不能互相理解对方的话,所以不要担心,选项 C“不要担心有口音,因为母语人士也有口音。”符合,故选 C。
