Liu Bei told Zhang Fei about his life, and Zhang Fei said he would use his money to help.

They went to a tavern ⑥ to talk, where they met Guan Yu, a tall and strong man who also wanted to fight. The three became friends and decided to work together. They went to the peach garden(Taoyuan) at Zhang Fei's home, promised to be brothers, and said they would fight for the country. Liu Bei was the oldest, Guan Yu was second, and Zhang Fei was the youngest.

They found over 500 men and joined Liu Yan's army. After many fights, Liu Bei became a small leader. But a bad leader lied about Liu Bei, so he had to leave. Zhang Fei was very angry and hit the bad leader. Knowing they couldn't stay, Liu Bei, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei left to join Liu Hui in Daizhou to keep fighting for what was right.
