The Dragon King
Wukong is looking for a powerful weapon$^{①}$. He asks a gibbon$^{②}$, "My swords and spears$^{③}$ are too light. I need something heavier." The gibbon remembers something and says, "There's a Dragon King in the sea. He might have a heavy weapon for you." Wukong says, "Great idea! I'll go there right now."
He uses his magic to breathe underwater and swims deep into the sea. He finds a huge palace$^{④}$. The Dragon King and the Dragon Queen$^{⑤}$ are sitting at a table, having tea. The Dragon King looks over when Wukong walks in.
"Who are you?" asks the Dragon King. "I'm the Monkey King of Flower and Fruit Mountain," says Wukong. "My name is Sun Wukong."
"It's nice to meet you," says the queen. "Would you like some tea?"
"No, thank you," says Wukong. "I need a heavy weapon. Do you have one?"
The Dragon King says, "Let me see what we have." He asks his servants to bring some weapons. But the swords and spears they bring are too light for Wukong, too. Wukong says, "Find me a better weapon!"
"We don't have anything else," says the Dragon King. "These are the heaviest weapons we have." Wukong says, "I'm not leaving until I get what I want!"
The Dragon Queen has an idea. "We have a magical iron bar in our treasure room. It's very heavy. But it's special and from heaven." The Dragon King doesn't want to give it away, but the Dragon Queen says, "Just give it to him so he'll leave us alone."
"Bring it here," says Wukong. "We can't," says the Dragon King. " ▲ But if you can lift$^{⑥}$ it, we'll let you own it." They lead Wukong to the treasure room. There is a huge iron pillar shining with golden light. Wukong goes closer and looks up at the large pillar of iron. He grabs it with both hands and easily lifts it off the ground.
Everyone is astonished! The Dragon King has to give the magical iron bar to Wukong.
