阅读下面短文,回答短文后的问题
As the saying goes,“It takes a village to raise a child.” And one Massachusetts community certainly takes that to heart.
In the summer of 2016,Glenda and Raphael moved into their new home in Newton and had their daughter Samantha soon.
Unluckily,Samantha was born deaf. But that didn’t stop Samantha growing into an outgoing girl. When she was out,she tried to communicate with her neighbours. But they couldn’t understand her because they didn’t know sign language(手势语). It made them a little upset(沮丧的).
Instead of giving up,the neighbours discussed and made up their mind. They found a sign language teacher and took classes in Lucia’s living room. Lucia has lived in Newton for over 20 years. She believes in the power of community. “Samantha gives us a reason to get together,” she says.
It was not easy for the neighbours to learn sign language, but they enjoyed it. Not long after that, they could communicate with the little girl by sign language freely. Both Samantha and her parents were very happy. “We are seeing changes in Samantha. We’re just so thankful that we live here,” Samantha’s mother says. “I couldn’t think of a better place for my daughter.” And they’re not the only ones who are thankful. “Samantha is doing something for us,” say some neighbours. “She’s not the only one who benefits(受益)from our class. She has made us better people and kept our community closer.”
