一、完形填空
After a long time of struggling with lung cancer, my father passed away. As a result, my life suffered (受苦) a lot. As the eldest son in my family, I had to take the responsibility(负责) of 1 the family. In order to look after my sick mother and two younger brothers, I couldn't help but leave school and work to raise my family. It seemed to me that life was always hard at that time. However, a thread of hope flashed in those 2 days.
It was a rainy afternoon when I exposed (暴露) myself to the rain and walked in the street alone. Suddenly the rain stopped! I looked up 3 only to find that “the sky” was in fact a dark blue umbrella. Then came a deep voice. “Why not run 4 an umbrella?” A middle - aged man with one leg on crutch (拐杖) said to me, “Run in the rain, and you will get less 5 .” I shook my head with politeness, but his words shocked me deeply. Without my father's 6 , could I only be a slave (奴隶) to the fate (命运)?
While walking together in the rain, I knew he was a promoter(推销员) from the city. To receive an order from a company, he had to spend much time on it. Looking at the guy, I had no pity but admiration. I took the umbrella from his hand and walked with him all the way. He told me he was once in the hope of being a policeman, but an accident stopped his 7 . Though his present work was a little hard and 8 for a disabled man, it could provide him with basic everyday life needs. Moreover, every travelling was a wonderful start to him. To his happiness, he never 9 heart and still “ran” on the road of life.
10 by what the man said, I headed for a southern city and became an insurance representative(保险代理人). After two years' running, I got my start and the life conditions in my family 11 better slowly.
Everything is 12 : to run without an umbrella! Only when you run out of the rainy season of your life will there be a bright sky ahead of you. Never give up!
