Recently, engineers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have designed a new running robot. It will soon be able to run like cheetahs, the fastest land animals on the Earth. It is light enough with the weight of 30 kilograms. (1) ____________ Sangbae Kim, director of the MIT Biomimetics Robotics Lab, says the robot needs only about 700 watt (瓦特) of power to operate.
The robot’s limbs (四肢) and other parts were made by a 3-D printer. (2) ____________ Kevlar is used for modern military (军用的) helmets and protective body clothing. “The frame (框架) has to be very light and very hard because it needs to deal with the high forces and shock.” (3) ____________ His team at MIT designed it themselves, he says, because no other engines on the market could deal with the robot’s power requirements.
(4) ____________ When supporting a great amount of forces, the robot’s limbs sometimes break.
Researchers say the new technologies used on this robot may be used in the making of man-made climbers and other machines.
