A(2024·合肥市 C20 教育联盟中考三模)
I still remember my interesting first day of school. On that day, I hurried to my science class in the morning and found a seat in the back. The science teacher told us about some class rules. No one talked to me, nor did I talk to anyone else. After the science class, I had an English class. I thought it would be boring but it turned out to be very funny.
When the classes of the morning ended, I went to lunch. I sat outside the dining room with no one to talk to and no food because I was too nervous to join the lunch line. I kept looking around, hoping to see someone I knew but I never saw anyone.
Lunch ended and I went to have my art class. I was the first one to get there and not even my teacher was there yet. So I sat at my desk and started drawing some pictures. I didn't notice the rest of the class walking in or the girl that was standing behind me until I was surprised by the voice. “So what are you drawing?” It was a girl who had really long hair. She ended up being my best friend and she is one of the kindest and liveliest girls I know.
In the next class meeting, the teacher asked us to talk about the past holiday. I was glad to make some new friends in the class. The first day of high school was hard for me but I got through it.
( )11. Why did the writer have no lunch?
A. Because she wasn't hungry.
B. Because she forgot the lunchtime.
C. Because she was afraid to stand in line.
D. Because she didn't like the dining room.
( )12. What did the writer do in the art class?
A. She drew some pictures about her class.
B. She met someone she knew before.
C. She talked about her past holiday.
D. She got to know a lively girl.
( )13. What is the best title of the passage?
A. My First Science Class
B. My Best Friend
C. My Lunchtime at School
D. My First Day of School

B
I was paired with Ryan to work on a project about ancient Egypt. “How about building a pyramid with hieroglyphics(象形文字)?” I suggested.
“That would be a lot of work,” said Ryan. “Why don't we just make a poster?”
“Come on, Ryan! It would be fun,” I said.
“I'm really busy,” said Ryan. “To enter a top college and become an engineer, I need tons of after - school classes. Have you decided what to do in the future, Alice?”
“No,” I replied.
“I think you should think carefully about it before it's too late,” said Ryan.
Ryan's words kept going around in my head. “What's up, Alice?” Mom asked when I jumped into the car after school.
“I need to decide what I'm going to be before it's too late,” I said. “I could be a dentist or a writer. Or maybe I could run our store when you and Dad retire(退休). I have to decide which one to pick, or else I won't go to the right college. Then what would happen to me?”
Mom smiled and said, “You'd still be you. You wouldn't turn into a horse!”
I laughed out loud. When I got home, I looked up the ancient Egyptians' hieroglyphic symbols and tried to copy them.
Believe it or not, when I showed the symbols to Ryan the next day, he showed me a wonderful cardboard pyramid he made. After several tries, we completed the project and it turned out amazingly successful.
Ryan reminded me to think about the future, and I reminded him to enjoy the present.
