There lived a dog and a cock on the farm long ago. They were very good friends.
One day, the dog and the cock decided that they would go to see the world away from the farm. They said good - bye to their friends on the farm and began their journey.
Soon, it was nightfall, and the cock began to look for a place to stay. He spotted (发现) a big tree that he thought would be a good place to rest for the night. He could fly up on one of the branches while the dog could sleep in the big hole at the bottom of the tree.
They soon fell asleep.
Dawn (黎明) came and the cock awoke. Thinking that he was still on the farm, the cock began to crow (鸣叫).
The cock’s crowing caused a fox to wake up. He rushed to the tree at once.
“A very good morning to you, Mr. Cock,” said the fox very politely. “What a fine morning it is!”

“Would you like to come to my house for breakfast, Mr. Cock?” asked the fox.
The cock knew what the fox had in mind, so he said, “Why, thank you very much. Mr. Fox. Perhaps you would like to come into my house for breakfast!”
When the fox heard that, he was very excited, “I’m very pleased.”
“Please go around the tree and you will find the door to my house, and my porter (门卫) will let you in,” said the cock.
The fox couldn’t wait for his meal and quickly did as he was told. But as soon as he went around the tree, the dog caught him.
