Mosquitoes are small animals. They can leave itchy(发痒的) bites. But not all mosquitoes are biters. Only female(雌的) mosquitoes bite and the males have plant juices. Female mosquitoes need blood to live and produce eggs. Mosquitoes have four stages in their life: egg, larva(幼虫), pupa(蛹) and adult. Most females lay their eggs in or near the water. An egg hatches(孵化) into a larva and then changes to a pupa. And the adult comes out of the pupa. Bloodsucking mosquitoes can live for a week or several months. A mosquito's two compound eyes always stay open. It can detect any fast movement from predators. So it's hard to find a safe(安全的) way to kill mosquitoes. Mosquito nets can be placed over beds to protect people against being bitten, but they do not kill mosquitoes.
