On the second day of their journey(旅行),they come to a forest. It's very big and dark. They're a little afraid but they know that they must go through it. The Scarecrow goes first. He finds a space between two big trees.
"Come on!" he says. "We can go in here."
Suddenly,a big branch(树枝)of one of the trees bends(弯腰)down,picks him up and throws him on the ground. He finds another space and tries again. The same thing happens. A branch bends down,picks him up and throws him on the ground.
"That's strange," Dorothy says. "What can we do?"
"Let me try!" the Tin Woodman says.
He goes up to the first tree. When the branch bends down to pick him up,he cuts it off with his axe(斧头). The tree starts shaking(摇晃). The Tin Woodman quickly runs under its branches and goes into the forest.
"Follow me!" he shouts. "These trees are the policemen of the forest. It's their job to keep people out."
The other trees don't hurt them and the friends walk through the forest without any problems. When they come out of it,they see a high wall in front of them. It's made of white china. "We must climb over it," the Scarecrow says. "But we haven't got a ladder(梯子)."
"I can make one," the Tin Woodman says. He goes and looks for some wood in the forest. Dorothy,Toto and the Lion are tired. They lie down on the grass and sleep.
The ladder is ready when they wake up. One by one they climb it. Soon they are all sitting on top of the china wall. They look at the country in front of them.
It's flat and white,like a plate. There are many small houses made of china. They're half the size of Dorothy. They're painted in bright colours.
