D 阅读理解
Lin Zhehao received a special gift just before turning 18—a letter from his young pen pal, a boy from a middle school in Daye, Hubei. Lin exchanges (交换) handwritten letters with him at least once a month.
The boy is one of the 526 middle school students in Daye taking part in the Blue Letter project for children aged 13 - 14. Many children face psychological (心理的) changes in middle school. However, they don’t want to share their feelings with adults such as parents or teachers. That’s why the China Charity Federation started the project with Blue Letter, an organization, trying to provide psychological help for these children.
80 to 90 percent of the project’s volunteers are university students, with the rest coming from different companies as employees (雇员). Take Ji Xiaoming as an example. Working for a food delivery platform (外卖平台), she has a 14-year-old pen pal named Cao Yajuan. In Cao’s first letter, she mentioned her stress of schoolwork, asked about study methods, and wanted to know something about university life. Ji drew on (利用) her own educational experiences and asked friends for advice to reply to the letter, sharing something about her university life. Upon receiving Ji’s reply, Cao was excited. “She described university life as so colorful. It really encouraged me to study hard and fight for my dream university,” she said.
So far, the project has offered services to children from 1,217 schools across the country, exchanging a total of 1.42 million letters. Actually, this project isn’t only about young volunteers providing help for children. It’s a win-win for both.
