In some places of the world, people usually celebrate Family Day on the second Monday of February. Family Day is a day for families to have fun together. It’s a time for us to show love to our family.
Family Day was first held(被举办) in Alberta, Canada in 1990. It was held to show the importance of family to people. Later, Family Day was introduced to other places, such as Ontario and Saskatchewan. British Columbia celebrated Family Day as a holiday for the first time in 2013.
On Family Day, most people have a day off work. Many stores and supermarkets are closed, but post offices may be open. Buses run according to their usual timetables.
On that day, there are some kinds of activities. Many people plan and take part in activities, such as visiting art museums, watching movies, playing games and holding parties with their families. Some communities(社区) plan special activities, too.
The weather is usually very cold in February, so some people just choose to stay at home and do some cleaning, do some cooking or play games together. Hot chocolate and freshly made cookies are the most popular snacks for them. Some families may like to go to another(另一个) city to try something new there. Other people use the long weekend as a chance to take a short winter break, or to travel to visit friends.
