Lu Ban was born in a carpenter’s family during the Spring and Autumn Period (770 BC—476 BC). When Lu Ban was a child, he always helped his family with carpentry. He was also very smart at inventing new tools. There is a story about how he invented the saw. At that time, carpenters didn’t have saws. So they had to use axes to cut the wood. One day, Lu Ban was at work on a mountain. A leaf cut his finger. Lu Ban thought, “How could such a small leaf hurt my finger?” He looked at the leaf carefully. There were many teeth on the leaf, and the teeth were sharp. “Could I make a tool with teeth like these?” Lu Ban said to himself. Soon Lu Ban made the first saw in the world.

鲁班的故事
