Yuan Longping is my favourite agricultural scientist. He is known as the “Father of Hybrid Rice”.
He was born in 1930 in Beijing. He began to study in Southwest Agricultural College in China in 1950. In the 1960s China was suffering from a serious famine(饥荒), so he decided to find a way of growing a better kind of rice. He made a special study of rice in 1964. Ten years later,he developed a new kind of rice. To help more people,he travelled around the world and gave advice about growing rice in the 1980s. He won the World Food Prize for his work in 2004.
Although Yuan Longping passed away,he will always be in people’s hearts.
In my opinion,he is a true hero. What a great man he is!
