B
My 14-year-old son, John, and I go to a second-hand clothes shop. We see a coat. It is very beautiful and a little expensive, 90. I look at my son and we both say nothing, but John has a smile on his face. This dark and woollen coat is popular with boys, and a new one could cost 300. John tries it on and turns from side (边) to side, looking at himself in the mirror (镜子). It fits him so well.
John wears the coat to school the next day. When he comes home, I ask, “Do your classmates like your coat?” “They love it very much,” he says with a big grin.
Over the next few weeks, John changes. He is very happy, polite and helpful. “Good morning, Mum. Have a nice day!” “Good night, Mum. I love you!” he says to me happily. After he comes home from school, he smiles to me and helps me with housework. When I say something about his homework, he isn't angry with me. He says, “You're right, Mum. I will try to do it better next time.” When I talk about his changes to his teacher, she says that the coat may have changed him.
John and I both know we should never judge (判断) a man by his clothes. But it is true that when wearing nice and comfortable clothes, we may try to be polite and helpful, to match what is on the inside with what is on the outside.
