墨西哥裔女孩圆梦太空

Many kids dream of flying into space one day, and Katya Echazarreta was no exception.
When she was a child, she promised herself she would go to space. At 26, she became the first Mexican - born woman to travel to space after landing her dream job at NASA as a test engineer.
Now, Echazarreta wants to show other women that they can reach their dreams too. “You never know what kind of doors you can open from chances that may not seem right for you at the moment,” Echazarreta said.
That’s how she got to NASA. When she was interviewed for a job that wasn’t really what she was good at, her enthusiasm and love for the work made NASA create a job that fit her skills.
Her passion didn’t stop there. Echazarreta was chosen to join the crew of Blue Origin’s NS - 21 flight through Space for Humanity. She said it was an experience she wouldn’t forget.
“I realized that the person I was from zero to 26, I left her in space,” Echazarreta said. “I’m not that person anymore. I’m much more ‘human’ now, and I care deeply about everything and everyone.”
Echazarreta goes on with her mission today by encouraging girls to follow their interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) careers. “I work hard every day to help others have the same chances,” Echazarreta said.
