Ten Thousand Krathongs
Lek rushed through the crowded streets to his parents' restaurant. Out of 1, he reached for some banana leaves without a break—he might have time to make krathongs.
Tonight was Loy Krathong (水灯节), a Thai festival when people would send out little boats with lighted candles so that last year's problems could sail away, leaving 2 for the new year.
This week, Lek had practised launching (使下水) krathongs as his brother Tong did because their sister, Dao, was sick, lying in bed. Perhaps a wish would 3 her illness!
"It won't be enough to cure Dao," Ya, Lek's grandma, said sadly. But Lek didn't 4.
