三、短文阅读
UN Chinese Language Day falls on April 20th. To make the Chinese language widely used in this organization, the UN set up the day in 2010.
The date was chosen to honor Cang Jie, an ancient Chinese figure(人物)who is believed to have invented Chinese characters. According to the legend, when Cang Jie created the characters, it rained millet, a type of grain, which is why the day is linked to the solar term “Guyu” or “Grain Rain”.
Chinese is one of the six official languages of the UN and has been used as a working language since 1973. On this day, the UN holds many interesting activities, such as exhibitions, music performances, and language learning forums. For example, in 2024, there was a special event called “Music of Love and Words of Harmony” at the UN headquarters(总部).
