范畴:人与自然 主题:热爱自然 体裁:记叙文 难度:★★★ 建议用时:7分钟 评价:____/5
In the 1930s, a young traveller climbed a high mountain. He arrived at the large piece of land without living things. It was ugly. It was the kind of place that you would hurry away from.
Then, suddenly, the young traveller stopped on the way. In the middle of this large land, there was an old man. On his back was a bag of seeds. In his hand was an iron pipe(铁管).
The man used the iron pipe to dig a hole in the ground. Then from the bag he took out a seed and put it in the hole. He did this again and again.
Later the old man told the traveller, “I’ve planted over 10,000 seeds. Perhaps only one-tenth of them will grow.” The old man’s wife and son had died, and this was how he chose to spend his final years.
“I want to do something useful,” he said.
Twenty-five years later, the traveller was no longer young. He returned to the place. What he saw amazed him. He could not believe his eyes. The land was covered with a beautiful forest which was two miles wide and five miles long. Birds were singing. Other animals were playing, and wild flowers were here and there.
The traveller stood there remembering the lifeless picture of the land. A beautiful forest stands there now, all because someone took care of it.
根据短文内容,回答下列问题。每题答案不超过5个词。
1. What was the young traveller’s impression of the land at first?
2. How many seeds did the old man think could grow, all of them or only some?
3. How many years later did the traveller return to the place?
4. Why was the traveller amazed when he returned to the place?
5. What do you think of the old man?
