五、(2025·北京东城区期末)阅读理解
Emily was in seventh grade, and she loved nature. One day, her teacher told the class about a school gardening project. She said, “This year, everyone will plant something, and we'll all help to keep the garden growing.” Emily's eyes got big and bright. “I can't wait to start planting!” she thought.
After school, Emily wanted to learn more about gardening. She went to the library and read books about how to grow plants. She learnt about different vegetables and how to take care of them.
The next day, Emily shared her ideas with her classmates. “How about planting some tomatoes and carrots(胡萝卜)?” she asked her friends. They all nodded their heads.
On planting day, Emily and her friends met in the garden. They brought seeds, shovels, and watering cans. They worked together, digging holes(挖洞) and planting seeds. Emily placed her tomato seeds carefully. “I hope they grow big and tasty!” she said excitedly. After planting, they watered the seeds and cleaned up the area. “Now we just have to wait and watch them grow,” Emily said.
Each week, Emily and her friends took turns watering the garden and checking the plants. One day, Emily saw something amazing. “Look! The seeds are turning into little plants!” she shouted. Her friends hurried to see the small green plants growing out of the ground.
As the weeks passed, the plants grew taller and greener. Emily felt happy about their hard work. “We did this together!” she said, smiling brightly.
Finally, the vegetables were ready to pick. Emily and her friends collected red tomatoes and crunchy(脆的) carrots.
On the day of their presentation, Emily brought a salad. She made it with the vegetables they grew and shared it with the class. “We learnt how to grow our own food and work together,” she said with a big smile.
