The Great Kapok Tree is a great book. Lynne Cherry wrote it. 1 I like it very much and I just can't put it down.
The story happens in the tropical Amazon rainforest. Lynne visited the rainforest to find out what was happening there. I am sure you know people are cutting down so many trees. 2 Lynne Cherry painted lots of beautiful pictures in the forest and put them in her book.
So, here's what happens in the story. The important person in her story is the woodcutter. He comes into the rainforest with two other men. They take axes(斧子) with them. All the animals are noisy and talking happily in the forest. 3 They know these men are going to cut down the great kapok tree. But it's a very large tree and the rainforest is very hot. The woodcutter soon gets tired and goes to sleep under the tree. 4 One of the animals says to the woodcutter, "What will happen tomorrow is up to what you do today. Please don't destroy(破坏) our home. We will have nowhere to live. When you wake up, please think again. "
