If you've been to Dunhuang,you must know the paintings in the grottoes( 石窟). People have shown interest in this town for thousands of years. But when it comes to it today,we have to mention “the Daughter of Dunhuang”—Fan Jinshi.
Fan grew up in Shanghai. While studying at Peking University,she found her love for archaeology( 考古学). This love led her to Dunhuang. After graduation,she was sent to work there. The ancient paintings in the grottoes amazed Fan. She decided to protect them. Life in Dunhuang was hard. The tables,chairs,and beds were all made of mud( 泥土). The roof( 屋顶) was made of paper. But nothing could kill Fan's love.
Over the past 60 years,Fan has walked through the Mogao Caves many times. She has carefully studied everything there. Fan planned and carried out the largest protection program in the history of Mogao Caves. She put forward the idea of building a “digital Dunhuang” and has helped to organize many successful shows of local arts. “During the day,I think about Dunhuang. At night,I dream about it. As long as I'm alive,I will try to protect it,” she once said.
Fan hopes that more young people will become interested in Dunhuang. She hopes it will always be carefully protected.
