There are many charities in the UK. People in London give 2 billion ( 十亿 ) pounds to charity each year. Most people in the UK give money once a month. People usually give money to children, old people, schools and hospitals.
Charity shops pay some people to work in the shops, but other people, who are called volunteers, work there and are not paid. People can give their old clothes, toys, books and other things that they don’t use anymore to charity shops. The volunteers then wash the old clothes to make sure they are clean before selling them. The money that they get ① selling things always goes to a charity. Many people believe that you can buy some things cheaply in charity shops. You just have to know where to look!
②Another way to give money to charity is by running or cycling in a charity race. You can ask your friends and family members to give money to help you and the charity. Sometimes they give you money for every kilometer that you complete.

Braden Baker, 11: Braden wears hearing aids( 助听器 ). When he learned that not all the kids who need hearing aids could get enough money to buy them, he wanted to help. So Braden started an online campaign( 运动 ) to raise money. The result was even better than he expected. So far, he has raised thousands of dollars to help kids hear better.
Savanna Karmue, 12: Savanna wants to keep kids healthy so that they can live happy lives. She set up Happy Heart to teach kids about the importance of exercise and healthy eating. Savanna also teaches kids how the heart works.
