B(2025·湖州吴兴)
On a cold winter day, Eric took his dogs, Milo and Duke out for their usual morning walk at Bark Park. But suddenly, he met his neighbor Frank whose small gray dog, Jackson, had gotten lost somewhere in the park. The dog had already been gone for quite some time. Small dogs don't do very well in cold weather. Knowing that there was no time to waste, Eric and his own dogs quickly started searching the park. Unluckily, Jackson was nowhere to be found.
If Eric hadn't had his own dogs with him, Jackson might never have been found in time. Eric decided to give up on the search and was already heading back to his car. But as Eric and his dogs were crossing the bridge, Milo suddenly noticed something in the water. Thinking that Milo had seen a duck or something else, Eric tried to pull on the leash(拴狗绳), but Milo wouldn't listen. Duke joined in, and the two dogs insisted(坚持)that something was going on.
Eric looked out across the bridge and saw a small, gray dog in the icy river. Eric began running down and called 911, but he knew that help wouldn't arrive in time. Without thinking twice, Eric jumped into the water and moved straight towards the dog. He used his arms to break the ice and quickly pulled the dog into his arms. They swam out of the water and back onto dry land. Frank was waiting for Jackson and rushed him straight to a nearby vet clinic(兽医诊所). It is reported that the dog wasn't hurt seriously at last.

C(2025·新昌)
David was a little boy with messy brown hair and old clothes. I had often wondered what kind of home life David had and what kind of mother could send her son to school dressed so improperly for the cold winter months, without a coat, boots, or gloves. But something made David special. He was always happy to help and not a day passed that David didn't stay after school to straighten chairs and clean the desks. We never talked much. He would just simply smile and ask what else he could do, then thank me for letting him stay and slowly head for home.
Weeks passed and the excitement over the coming Christmas grew stronger and stronger until the last day of school before the holiday break. When the final bell rang, the anxious(急切的)children rushed out of the door. I smiled in relief as the last of them hurried out the door. Turning around, I saw David quietly standing by my desk.
“I have something for you, Ms Miller,” he said and pulled from behind his back a small box wrapped(包装)in old paper. Handing it to me, he said anxiously, “Please open it.” I took the box from him, thanked him and slowly unwrapped it. To my surprise, I saw nothing. I looked at David's smiling face, then back into the empty box and said, “The box is nice, David, but it's empty.”
“Oh, no, it isn't,” said David. “It's full of love. My mum told me before she died that love was something you couldn't see or touch unless you know it's there... can you see it?”
Tears filled my eyes as I looked at the proud dirty face that I had given little attention to. “Yes, David, I can see it,” I replied. “Thank you.” I can say that with the passing years, I never forgot the meaning behind the little empty box that set on my desk.
