Chang'e 7 probe( 探测器) will travel to the moon in 2026. Thanks to some school kids in Hunan, it will carry a special national flag of China.
“There is no wind on the moon, so how can we make the flag fly?” Deng Haoxuan asked his classmates at Lushan International Experimental Primary School’s science club.
“I learned that magnets( 磁铁) can push away from each other. I thought this might help the flag fly,” said Deng, now 15. But he also found that the magnets were too heavy and the flag kept falling. Deng and his classmates then glued wires( 电线) to the flag. “When we powered the wires, they created a magnetic field( 磁场). This made the flag move like magnets do!”
The kids learned that the idea might still work in space. After months of testing, they found the perfect place to set the wires.
“It’s amazing that our idea worked, and soon we’ll see the five-star red flag fly in space,” Deng said.
