B
Joshua Martinangeli, 7, is too ill to go to school. But the German student can still talk with his teachers and classmates. Why?
There is an avatar robot(替身机器人) sitting in Joshua's place in his class. It talks with others for the boy. The robot has a light on its head. When Joshua has something to say, he gives a signal(信号) to the robot. The light on its head starts to blink(闪烁). Then the teacher knows that Joshua is going to say something.
"The children talk to him, laugh with him and sometimes even chat with him during the lesson. Joshua can do that quite well too," said the form teacher.
"Joshua cannot go to school because he is badly ill and needs a lot of care at home. With the help of the robot, he can have lessons at home!" said his mother, Simone Martinangeli.
"We bought four avatars for our schools. It does happen from time to time, for many reasons, that a child cannot go to class in person. Then, the avatar can help that child be part of the school," said the district education councillor(地区教育议员) Torsten Kuehne.
"I like it either way because I like the avatar," said student Noah Kuessner when asked if he hopes to see Joshua again.
"And I would like it better if Joshua could really come to school," said another classmate, Beritan Aslanglu.
