Dolls are very popular with young people today. For them, dolls are not only for playing. They use dolls to find and know themselves.
Laura, 26, bought her first doll in 2009. In high school, she would take photos of her dolls every now and then. She did it as a way to relax from studying. She enjoyed making up life stories for them too.
Every doll of hers has a different personality(性格).
Laura says dolls can tell her "words of beauty". To make her dolls look special, she would change their make-up and clothes.
Cao Yuan is a 39-year-old doll maker. He sees doll-making as an art. When Cao makes a doll, he tries to make it look like a real person. He makes every part perfect. You can even see the blood vessels(血管) on the doll's eyelids(眼睑).
"I would study online photos of children," Cao said. He studies real people's facial expressions(面部表情) and later uses them on the dolls.
Cao Yuan said there are two main activities of doll lovers. One is dressing up the dolls. People will match dolls' clothes and change their hairstyles. "It's just like choosing clothes for yourself in another world," he said. The other is taking pictures of the dolls. Doll lovers do both outside on a trip or indoors. Some will make different scenes(场景) or stories for their toys.
