Ⅴ. 任务型阅读 (主题: 人与自我·感恩父母)
Do you think it is very hard to say thanks to your parents? Many people do. My mum used to hold this idea, but she changed her mind that night when I shared my opinion on this matter.
It was about two years ago when I had a great pain in my stomach. I felt uncomfortable. My mum took me to the hospital at once, and took good care of me.
Later that day, when we arrived home, it was already two o’clock in the morning. When I went to bed, my mum said good night to me as usual. And I said to her, “Thank you, Mum.” She told me that there was no need for a daughter to say thanks to her mum. “Yes, Mum,” I replied. “But I still want to say thanks to you. I want you to know that I remember everything you have done for me.” After hearing my words, she cried and said, “I am so proud of you.” I was very happy at that moment because I changed her mind.
Many people seem to take their parents’ care for granted(认为……是理所应当的). They think that in informal moments, there is no need to say thanks and saying thanks will only keep family members or friends distant(疏远的) from each other. However, I think it is important to show our thanks to the people who have helped us. By saying thanks, we can let them know that we are truly thankful for their kindness.
