B
Did you ever dream of travelling all the way over the rainbow? In fact, it’s easier than you think. All you need to do is to buy a plane ticket to Peru(秘鲁). The South American country is home to wonderful natural sights, and one of the most amazing is Rainbow Mountain.
Rainbow Mountain, also called Mountain of Seven Colours, lies in the Andes in Cusco. As its name shows, the mountain has different colours. It attracts lots of tourists every year.
But what makes the mountain look like it is painted in yellow, green, red and purple? The reason is the ice—it covered the area centuries ago. When it began to melt, the water mixed with minerals(矿物质) in the ground, turning the earth into the many colours you see today.
If you plan your trip to the mountain, you’d better visit it during warmer months when there will be less rain or snow. Rain or snow will make the climbing more difficult and the colours will look duller(更暗淡的). The best time begins in March and lasts nine months, when there will be blue skies and pleasant weather. At the same time, visit it in the morning or during evening hours, either right after sunrise or right before sunset. Very sunny days may prevent you from taking nice photos.
To get to Rainbow Mountain, you should first go to Cusco. From the city, you can take a two-or-three-hour car ride to Pitumarca. Then you have to make your way to Qesoyuno to start the journey on foot. Once you arrive at the base(大本营), it’s about a two-or-three-hour walk to the top. This really is the best way, but the trip is very challenging. The other important thing to remember is that the mountain sits at a really high elevation(海拔), about 5,200 metres above sea level, so prepare enough water and take your time.
( ) 5. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By telling a story. B. By listing a fact.
C. By asking a question. D. By giving an example.
( ) 6. Which of the following is a perfect time for a trip to Rainbow Mountain?
A. At noon of a cold day in December.
B. On the evening of a rainy day in August.
C. On the afternoon of a snowy day in January.
D. On the morning of a sunny day in September.
( ) 7. What can we learn about Rainbow Mountain?
A. It’s a man-made wonder.
B. It has seven different colours.
C. It was covered by ice in the past.
D. It’s the most famous place of Peru.
( ) 8. Which of the following is TRUE?
A. Very sunny days will help you take nice photos on Rainbow Mountain.
B. From Cusco, it takes about 2 or 3 hours to walk to the top of Rainbow Mountain.
C. Rainbow Mountain sits at a height about 520 metres above the sea level.
D. Rainbow Mountain with different colours lies in the Andes in Cusco.
( ) 9. We can read the passage in the part of ________ in a newspaper.
