任务二 阅读理解
A
On a cold January morning, a man sat at a subway station and started to play the violin. He played for about 45 minutes.
Three minutes went by, and a middle - aged man stopped for a few seconds, and then hurried up to take care of his things.
A minute later, the violinist received his first tip: a woman threw some money but she didn’t stop and walked away.
Only a 3 - year - old boy took the music seriously, going over, sitting down and soon losing himself in the wonderful performance. His mother wished to hurry along, but the kid kept looking at the violinist.
When he finished playing, no one noticed it. No one applauded(鼓掌).
No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua, one of the most talented musicians in the world. He just played one of the most beautiful pieces ever written, on a violin worth 3.5 million dollars. Joshua played the same music with the same violin and the seats each cost 100 dollars at a theatre two days before.
Joshua’s playing in the subway station was a social experiment(实验). It asks questions: In a common environment at a wrong hour, do we enjoy beauty? Do we stop to make a response(反应)? If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing the best music, how many other things are we ignoring(忽视)?
( ) 1. What was the man’s purpose(目的) of playing the violin at the subway station?
A. To make some money.
B. To see people’s response.
C. To practise his skills.
D. To teach a music lesson.
( ) 2. How many people stopped to listen to the music carefully?
A. One.
B. Two.
C. Three.
D. Four.
( ) 3. What does the writer suggest in the last paragraph?
A. Don’t be always in a hurry.
B. Stop to enjoy street performance.
C. Enjoy beautiful music at a theatre.
D. Don’t miss the wonderful moment in life.
( ) 4. What is the passage mainly about?

答案:
B
When my daughter was in primary school, she brought home four small twigs(嫩枝) from school to plant. None of them looked very strong, but with hope for the future, I planted them somewhere in our backyard that had enough sunlight. Over the years, because of the poor soil, three of them died. Only one survived.
It grew crooked(弯曲的) and very slowly. It looked more like a fat bush than a tree. Later, I noticed that it was starting to die. Leaves on the lower branches all fell. Only the top third of the tree was still green. I did my best to save it by feeding it a lot of fertilizer(肥料), but it didn’t work.
Later one morning, I went out and looked at it again. I was wondering if it would be better to just cut it down. It would make the yard look cleaner. As I walked over to take a closer look at it, however, I noticed something moving within the leaves. It was a bird patiently building a nest in the top branches. I smiled when I looked at it. I thought maybe this old tree was still useful. It might not be healthy or pretty, but it was still giving a bird a home.
This tree tells me that all of our lives have a purpose(目标). It doesn’t matter if we are young and strong or old and sick. Until our last moment, we have things to do, love to give and joy to share. We can help to make this world a better and more beautiful place.

( ) 6. What did the only living tree look like later?
A. It was straight and tall.
B. It grew fat very quickly.
C. It looked like a bird’s nest.
D. It didn’t have many leaves.
( ) 7. What may the writer do with the tree later?
A. She may cut it down.
B. She may build more nests on it.
C. She may leave it as it is.
D. She may cut some twigs from it to plant them.
( ) 8. We can learn from the story that ________.
A. every living thing has a purpose
B. we should care more about the earth
C. we should work hard until the last moment
D. it’s time to think about the meaning of our lives
