I read that you plan to make big budget (预算) cuts to our music education programs. I am writing to ask you not to make these cuts. Music education should be part of every child's education. Studies show that music helps develop children's language, thinking, and memory skills.
Children who take part in a band learn teamwork. They have a sense of school pride and a group of friends with the same goals. Singing or playing an instrument helps to improve a person's listening skills, too.
Children who play musical instruments increase their fine motor (精细动作) skills. Learning to play music also helps children believe they can achieve. It is helpful in every part of life. What's more, self - confidence helps them to face challenges in all areas of life.
There are more good points to learn to play an instrument. For example, children learn to set a goal and work towards it. As they practice, they master not just the instrument but reading music as well. Trying to learn a piece of music helps a child to face a reasonable stress and overcome it. And we all know that the ability to deal with stress is important in life.
Music also improves math. Musical notes are based on fractions (分数). As a result, students who study music score 23 points higher than average on the math part and 63 points higher than average of the speaking part of the SAT.
