C
A blackboard paper with a display of students' winter diaries.
The last week of each month is the busiest for Lai Min, 15, of Fujian. The Junior 3 student regularly (定期地) holds a meeting with several classmates. In the meetings, they discuss the content (内容) of the blackboard newspaper for the next month.
"I've been in charge of the blackboard newspaper since my Junior 1 year," says Lai. "We try to publish fantastic articles for classmates to learn and relax."
There are usually two blackboards in classrooms in China. The one in the front is mostly used by teachers for class. Students then use the one in the back as a newspaper and transcribe (抄写) articles onto it. The articles could be about the latest events, math puzzles, jokes or health tips."I like reading the jokes during the breaks. It helps me keep a light heart for my next class," Lai told Teens.
Fan Donglei, 14, of Henan, takes charge of drawing pictures for the blackboard newspaper. Each time, Fan draws a picture that matches the topic of the main article. "If it's about environmental protection(环境保护), I will draw a little girl picking up trash on the street on a rainy day," Fan said.
"Drawing with chalk is much harder than with pencils," Fan added. "But I like it, and my handwriting also improves."
Xu Mengzi's job is to transcribe five English proverbs on the blackboard newspaper each month. The 14-year-old girl from Jilin said she always collects proverbs from Teens "Because there are a lot." Xu thinks she really benefits (受益) from her job. "When I transcribe the proverbs, I remember them. Then I use them in English exams," Xu said. "That may be the reason why I always get high marks, sometimes full marks, in the writing part."
