Poonyisa,a 13-year-old girl from Thailand, won the International Youth Art Competition in 2023. The competition was open to artists aged 4-18. More than 1,000 people from about 90 countries took part in it. In fact, the competition is part of celebrations of World Wildlife Day. World Wildlife Day is on March 3 every year. It's a day to celebrate the diversity (多样性) of life on the earth.
Poonyisa's painting has helped more people get to know hornbills (犀鸟). "In Thailand, the hornbill stands for love," she said. "But now the number of hornbills is decreasing greatly. Maybe we can't see them in nature one day. It will be a terrible thing. So I painted them and wanted more people to know them. I hope hornbills can always stay in the forest."
Azzedine Downes, president of IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare),said he felt sorry for the animals every time he heard some news about them. "Some of them can't get enough food. Some are losing their living space. As we can see, more and more wild animals are in danger. So it's time for us to take action to change that. Even small efforts can help them a lot. If people from different places work together to save wild animals, they can survive in the future," said Downes.
All kinds of wild animals are of great importance to humans. They make our world rich and colourful. People all over the world should act together to protect them.
