Ⅱ. 阅读理解,选择最佳选项。
In recent years, lots of studies have been done to look into different parts of housework. These studies give us new ideas about the importance, sharing, and effects of house chores in our lives.
A study from the University of Queensland in Australia showed a big difference between men and women in doing housework. On average, Australian women spend three times more time on housework than men every week. The study also found that local Australian men are less likely to do housework compared to immigrant (移民) men. This may be because of cultural differences. Immigrants, who are often more educated, seem to have a more open - minded view about sharing home duties.
Another interesting study by the Max Planck Institute for Human Development found a connection between personality and housework. People with a more nervous personality type spend 41 more minutes on housework every day than those with calm emotions. Researchers thought that nervous people might need a cleaner place to feel relaxed, or they may not be as good at finishing tasks quickly as those with calm emotions.
Housework also matters for health. A medical study said that for people over 65, doing simple housework is linked to an 8% higher thinking ability score than those who seldom do it. Also, older people who do harder housework have better balance and are more active in their daily lives.
Even though we know these things, in modern life, housework is often not taken seriously. Busy work plans and thinking that housework is boring are the reasons for this. But these studies clearly show that housework is far from being unimportant. It not only helps keep a happy family but also has good effects on our own health and happiness.
