When Toad learned that he was a prisoner in the prison, he lay down on the floor and cried for a long time. He wouldn't see the sunlight for twenty years. He felt sad. When he complained about the food and his bed, jailers(监狱看守) just laughed at him. "This isn't a hotel, Toad," one of them said.
Luckily, a jailer's daughter Phoebe liked him. "I don't think you should be here, Toad," she said. "The only thing you did wrong was to call the judge(法官) Fat Face."
She didn't know that he had stolen a car. The judge hadn't sent him to prison for that. He had sent him to prison for calling him Fat Face.
"The judge does have a fat face. It's wrong to keep you in prison for that. Perhaps I can help you to escape(逃脱)," Phoebe said. "Really?" he said. "How can you do that?"
"My aunt comes here every day to do the washing in the prison. I can ask her to bring her clothes. You can put them on and pretend(假装) to be her. The jailers will let you out."
The next day, Phoebe arrived with her aunt. They dressed Toad in the clothes. "Remember you are a washwoman," the aunt said. Then he left his room and walked past the prison gate. No one stopped him. Soon he was free.
