Near my home lies a small lake surrounded by a walking path (小路). When my children were younger, I took them to this place a few times a week. The experience of walking along the path was truly wonderful, as it allowed us to be close to nature and enjoy its beauty.
One autumn day, however, I noticed that the path wasn't looking so good. It was full of rubbish that other walkers had left along the way. The next time we went there, I took a large bag with me. As we walked along the lake, we picked the rubbish up and put it in the bag.
Before putting the bag into the car, I looked back at the lake shining in the sun and the trees full of beautiful red and golden leaves, and I smiled. It took us twice as long as usual to get all the way around the lake. But we felt a sense of satisfaction that couldn't be put into words. We didn't make the lake more beautiful, but we removed some things that made it less so.
In this life we are all more important than we realise. Every single thing we do can add or take away from the beauty of this world. We all need to make wise choices to contribute to the world. We need to do our part and give something back. Maybe it is an act of kindness, a word of love, or even picking up a single piece of rubbish.

A. The car. B. The lake.
C. The sun. D. The rubbish.
()22. What is the main purpose of Paragraph 4?
A. To share personal stories.
B. To discuss the problem of rubbish.
C. To introduce the beauty of the lake.

We hear a lot about how we should change our lives to help save our planet. Jim Barnes, 15 years old, from Oxford, talks about what his family does every day to save the planet.
A common English family produces more than one ton of rubbish a year. Some of this waste takes hundreds of years to decay. It also costs lots of money to keep buying new things to replace the things we throw away.
So to help save the planet and save money, our family has decided to recycle everything. We collect used things, such as paper and bottles, and put them into different bins. After they are treated in the recycling place, they can be used again. This will help reduce a lot of waste. We're also going to grow our own vegetables and we already keep hens. Soon, we can eat our own eggs for breakfast.
In a year, a family like ours uses much electricity for watching television, taking showers, using the dishwasher and the washing machine, and more. This is a lot. To produce much energy, a lot of pollution is created. This pollution can cause health problems and global warming.
Because of all this, we decided to do something to save electricity. We watch less TV and use low-energy light bulbs now. We stopped using the dishwasher. Mum also tries to save energy while cooking.
What's more, we try to use our car less to cut down on air pollution. My dad organises a carpool(拼车) with our neighbours and they take turns driving to work. And I ride my bicycle to school. How cool is that!
()23. What does the underlined word "decay" in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Be destroyed naturally.
B. Be increased quickly.
C. Go away slowly.
D. Become larger step by step.
()24. How does Jim's family deal with the used things?
A. To sell them in order to make money.
B. To send them away.
C. To collect and put them into different bins.
D. To throw them away and buy new things.
()25. What problem does Jim mention in Paragraph 4?
A. The waste of electricity.
B. The waste of water.
C. The waste of money.
D. People don't recycle things.
()26. Why do they do "carpool"?
A. Because they like taking turns driving.
B. Because they get along well with their neighbours.
C. Because they'd like to cut down on the air pollution.
D. Because they want to save money.

The Taklamakan Desert(塔克拉玛干沙漠), which is in the northwest part of China, is the biggest desert in our country. It has been a big worry because it's really large, about 337,600 square kilometres and there are a lot of sandstorms that come from it. These sandstorms are very bad for nature and the way people live around it. So, people started a big project to put a green belt(带) around the desert.
By the end of 2023, a large part of a 2,761-kilometre-long green belt had already been made around the desert. In 2024, the last 285 kilometres, mostly in the south of the desert where the sandstorms are very bad, was finished. Now the whole Taklamakan Desert has a green belt all around it. This project has to do with six counties(县) in three parts of Xinjiang.
The building of this green belt used many different scientific ways. For example, the China Railway Construction Development Group(中铁建发展集团) made a system to stop the sand. This system has three main things. There are tall things to stop the sand, squares made of straw(稻草) and wide lines of trees. These things work together well to stop the desert from getting bigger.
When the green belt around the desert was successfully finished, it brought a lot of good things. First, it made nature around the desert better. There are fewer and not as strong sandstorms now. Second, it kept the farming near the desert safe. So, farmers can grow food more easily. Also, the places where people live in cities and in the countryside are nicer. Because there are fewer sandstorms, there is less harm to the things like roads and buildings, and more people come to visit. So, the local people can make more money from having visitors. This project shows how much China wants to stop the desert from getting worse and make nature better.
()27. Where does the Taklamakan Desert lie in China?
A. Southwest. B. Northwest.
C. Southeast. D. Northeast.
()28. What is the total length of the green belt around the Taklamakan Desert in 2023?
A. 2,761 kilometres. B. 285 kilometres.
C. 3,046 kilometres. D. 337,600 kilometres.
()29. What is the RIGHT order of the following events?
①The green belt project around the Taklamakan Desert was started.
②A large part of the green belt was constructed by the end of 2023.
③The final part of the green belt was finished in 2024.
④Sandstorms from the Taklamakan Desert caused various problems.
A. ④①②③ B. ①④②③
C. ④②①③ D. ①②③④
()30. What's the best title for the passage?
A. The History of the Taklamakan Desert
