On the way home, Jack found a hawk(鹰) lying beside a box. The hawk seemed to be in pain. One of its wings looked broken, touching the ground. Its eyes looked scared. So Jack took off his T - shirt and wrapped(包裹) it carefully round the hawk. Then he carried it home.
Jack’s mom didn’t like animals in the house, so he decided to hide the hawk in the garden shed . He named the hawk Falco and secretly put it down on the floor with his T - shirt.
After that, he went back to his room. Unluckily, his parents were waiting for him. Finding his T - shirt missing, they got quite angry and didn’t allow him to go out within a week.
Jack worried about Falco all night. In the early morning, he took some bread and a small bowl of water to the shed . But Falco just sat quietly in a corner, it didn’t have anything . Falco’s eyes were open, but not bright now . Jack didn’t know how to help Falco .
Suddenly, his brother Jim appeared . Jack had no choice but to tell his brother the truth . Jim became very excited and promised not to tell their mom .
Then the brothers discussed how to feed Falco . They decided to get help from their friend Holly because she knew a lot about animals, birds and nature . Holly advised them to feed some meat to Falco .
Over the next few days, Falco got much better . He always ate the meat that Jack and Jim brought him from the kitchen . Jack even dug up worms in the park for Falco . Falco loved them! His feathers looked bright and shiny, too .
One morning, Holly came to see Falco and said it was well enough to fly again! They happily opened the door, and watched Falco step into the sunlight slowly . Falco beat his wings and tried to fly in small circles, then in large ones . Suddenly, he made a loud cry and flew away . Jack felt a bit sad, but he knew they were right .
