五、阅读理解
Today, we’ll look at a story about a street musician and a homeless cat in the book A Street Cat Named Bob. It is about how James Bowen and his cat, Bob, found hope on the streets of London.
James Bowen is a street artist who busks (街头卖艺) around Covent Garden in London. It sometimes pays well, but not always. When Bowen finds Bob on his balcony (阳台), injured and hungry, he wants to help. James already has trouble feeding himself. Still, James decides to nurse Bob back to health.
One day, Bob follows James to Covent Garden. He attracts lots of people. They stop and listen to Bowen’s songs. Bowen earns more money that evening than he usually gets in an entire day. Bob and Bowen have many wonderful adventures, although there are many hard days as well.
This book is an autobiography (自传), written by James Bowen himself. I like autobiographies. They tell you more about what the person is feeling, rather than only describing facts. In A Street Cat Named Bob, Bowen not only tells you about his life with Bob, but also tells you about his previous (先前的) experiences, such as his parents’ divorce (离婚) and financial (财务的) difficulties. The language is simple, so it is easy to read.
( ) 1. What is A Street Cat Named Bob about?
A. The life of a homeless cat. B. The lives of buskers.
C. The story of James Bowen and his cat. D. The lives of people in London.
( ) 2. It is hard for Bowen to keep Bob because ______.
A. Bowen is poor B. Bob is too sick
C. Bob can’t live on the balcony D. Bowen is too busy
( ) 3. What does the underlined word “nurse” probably mean?
A. Look over. B. Look after. C. Look through. D. Look up.
( ) 4. What can we learn from Paragraph 3?
A. What Bowen and Bob experience together.
B. How wonderful their adventures are.
C. What difficulties they have in Covent Garden.
D. How much money Bob and Bowen earn together.
( ) 5. What do we know from the last paragraph?
A. James Bowen comes from a happy family.
B. Readers can learn many difficult words from the book.
C. The cat has many feelings.
D. A Street Cat Named Bob tells a true story.
