三、阅读理解(共10小题;每小题2分,满分20分)
A
There’s a new field in 3D printing that’s beginning to come into attention: food. Recent development has made possible machines that print, cook and serve foods. And the industry isn’t stopping there.
Food production
With a 3D printer, a cook can print mixed chocolate sculptures and beautiful pieces for decoration on a wedding cake. Not everybody can do that—it takes years of experience, but a printer makes it easy. A restaurant in Spain uses a Foodini to “recreate forms and pieces” of food that are “exactly the same”, which makes cooks have more time to do other work.
Sustainability (可持续性)
The population on Earth may grow to 9.7 billion by 2050, and research shows that food production will need to be raised by 50 per cent to keep up with present levels. 3D food printing could probably be a way of dealing with the situation. Some scientists believe printers could use hydrocolloids (水解胶体) from plentiful renewable resources like algae (藻类) and grass instead of the daily cooking materials. 3D printing can reduce fuel (燃料) use and emissions (排放). Food in supermarkets might be stored for years, reducing transportation and storage requirements.
Nutrition (营养)
Future 3D food printers could make food healthier. Hod Lipson, a professor at Columbia University, said, “Food printing could allow people to print food with what they need, like vitamins. So instead of eating a piece of yesterday’s bread from the supermarket, you’d eat something made just for you.”
①
The 3D food printing industry has many challenges to overcome. Presently, most food materials must be changed to a paste (糊状物) before a printer can use them, and the printing process takes a lot of time. Besides, most of the 3D food printers now are only used for dry food materials, because meat and milk products may easily go bad. Some experts doubt 3D food printers, believing they are more suitable for fast food restaurants than homes and high-end restaurants.
( ) 31. Which of the following can be put in ①?
A. Industry
B. Materials
C. Products
D. Challenges
( ) 32. What are the reasons that may prevent 3D food printing from spreading widely?
① Food materials have to be dry.
② 3D food printers are too expensive.
③ The printing process takes time.
④ Food can’t be stored for a long time.
⑤ It is less tasty than food in supermarkets.
⑥ Materials must be changed to a paste.
A. ①④⑤
B. ②③⑤
C. ①③⑥
D. ②④⑥

Mike Myers is a teacher at Chauncey Rose High School in Terre Haute, Indiana. Last year, he taught his students about the world’s rainforests. They learned that rainforests are important because the plants and animals of the rainforests give us food, wood, and medicine.
Destruction of the world’s rainforests is a serious problem. Unluckily, rainforests are disappearing at a rate of 80 acres per minute! As part of a class project, Myers’ students bought three acres of rainforest in Central America. They paid 25 per acre. The students hope that the land they bought will be protected and not destroyed. The students became so interested in rainforests that they decided to get a closer look at a real rainforest. So last June, Myers and four of his students took a boat ride down a river. They saw alligators and crocodiles. In the middle of the week, a guide took Myers and his students into the rainforest. “The monkeys were not happy that we were in their forest. They broke small branches off the trees and threw them at us,” one of the students said. “It was a great learning experience for all of us,” said Myers. Each student chose something specific about Costa Rica to study involving the plants, animals, food, and culture. During the last few days the group had time to do fun activities. They went whitewater rafting and horseback riding, and visited Costa Rica’s active volcano.Myers hopes to make the trip every year with a different group of kids.( ) 33. How much did Myers’ students pay for the rainforest they bought?A. 25.
B. 75.C. 80.
D. 2,000.
( ) 34. What did Myers and his students do at the beginning of the trip?
A. They went into the rainforest.
B. They bought acres of rainforest.
C. They took a boat ride down a river.
D. They visited Costa Rica’s active volcano.
( ) 35. The underlined word “Destruction” in Paragraph 2 probably means “the process of being __________”.
A. destroyed
B. developed
C. described
D. discovered
( ) 36. The passage mainly shows that Myers and his students __________.
A. did something to protect rainforests
B. wanted to buy the rainforest in Costa Rica

① I’ve been working as a professional clown (小丑) for nearly two years. Before that, I was an actor for nine years. I was never famous, but I was quite successful! I changed jobs because I wanted to do more in life than making people laugh. What if I could help people, too?
As a clown, I try to encourage sick children in hospital to laugh and smile. When you laugh, your mind and body relax. Clearly, people who laugh more don’t have as many colds or other problems! Children who laugh a lot often get better results in their studies, too.
It isn’t an easy job. Not all sick children get better, and sometimes I come home and cry. But I always go back to work the next day with my red nose on. I don’t earn much money as a clown, but I feel very lucky to work with such brave wonderful patients.
② I became a laughter yoga (瑜伽) teacher more than two years ago. Before that, I was a dentist! My job was very difficult, and I used to feel fed up. Now I still improve people’s health, but everything else is completely different. Everyone has fun in a laughter yoga class, including the teacher!
No, laughter isn’t “magic”. It doesn’t prevent all illnesses, keep you young, or make you beautiful. But did you know that it’s an excellent kind of exercise? You move your whole body when you laugh!
Sometimes I work with famous people. It’s true that being rich can be stressful! Some famous people can be unpleasant at times, but I try to change their bad feelings. Laughter is excellent for people like musicians, artists and writers, because it helps people to be more creative.
( ) 37. According to the passage, we can see that both writers __________.
A. have changed their jobs
B. like sports very much
C. feel unhappy at work
D. are looking for jobs
( ) 38. The reason why the first writer takes up the jobs as a clown is that __________.
A. he has had a disease for two years
B. he needs a much easier job
C. he wants to be a successful man
D. he wishes to help people
( ) 39. The second writer mentions famous people in the passage to show that __________.
A. they are always rich
B. they have stress sometimes
C. they like funny people
D. they are good at doing yoga
( ) 40. The underlined part “fed up” is closest in meaning to “__________”.
A. interested
B. satisfied
C. disappointed
D. bored
