阅读短文,完成任务。
My grandmother passed away at the age of 90. My mother and I went to her home and looked around a bit. It was the house where so many memories lived—feeding birds in the backyard, sitting on the grass playing cards and drinking lemonade... In the weeks and months after she died, it was so hard to be in her house without her.
She had lived a simple life and hadn't left much behind. We weren't looking for money or anything valuable—we just wondered what kinds of things we might find.
In the living room, I saw Grandma's rocking chair. For as long as I could remember, she would sit in that chair, knitting (编织) things and watching TV. I thought for a moment about taking the chair home with me, but it was far too big for my living room. Besides, I'm not old yet.
Then my mum came in and looked at the same chair. “Ah, it's my mum's rocking chair. You know, when I was a newborn, your grandmother would nurse me and send me to sleep while rocking in that chair. And when you were born, I did the same to you,” she said.
I had no idea about the chair's history. For years, it stayed in our family and helped my mother and my grandmother as they dealt with the challenges of new motherhood. And my husband and I had been talking recently about possibly having a child of our own.
“I'll take the chair home with me if you don't mind,” I said to my mother. “Not at all,” she replied, with a knowing look in her eyes.
