C
Christmas is a time for family, celebrating... and lots of rubbish. The UK Environment Agency(EA) says that the festival produces around 30% more waste than usual.
It includes over 1 billion Christmas cards, millions of Christmas crackers and around 230,000 miles of wrapping paper. Tons of plastic waste goes in the bin each year, too—plastic from the things such as toy packaging, food packaging and even the things like calendars and Christmas jumpers(针织套衫).
However, there are easy ways for people to help lower the amount of Christmas waste.
The EA suggests buying wrapping paper, crackers and cards that can be easily recycled. They suggest donating(捐赠) unwanted gifts and clothes to stop them going in the rubbish bin. Making the time to recycle the things that are made from glass and plastic can help, too.

According to a company, two-thirds of Britons buy more food at Christmas than they need. They say 7.1 million pigs in blankets, 7.5 million mince pies, 263,000 turkeys and 2 million kilograms of cheese end up in the bin. Food waste at Christmas adds up to around £444 million!
They suggest that people think about their act of buying and take the time to think about whether or not they really need everything they buy.
