Susan is a shy but smart girl. She can't see well, so she always wears a pair of big glasses. Because of this, her classmates often make fun of her. Lewis, one of her classmates, calls her "Four Eyes". She feels sad about it.
One day, Susan and her classmates went a school trip to visit some caves (洞穴). When they came closer to a cave, Lewis carelessly (粗心地) put one foot in a hole and fell over. While falling, he grabbed (抓住) Susan by her arm. And they both fell into the hole.
The cave was big and dark. And there were some tree roots (树根) on the ground. Lewis and Susan could see little light. They shouted for help, but no one came. They had to spend a long and cold night there.
The next morning, Lewis kept shouting, but still no one came. The sunlight didn't go down from the hole in a straight line until noon. Quickly, Susan took a piece of wood. She used her glasses as a magnifying glass (放大镜) and focused (使······对焦) the light onto the wood. A short time later, the wood was on fire and they had a flashlight (火炬). Lewis watched all this in surprise and then he started looking for more wood. And in the end, they found the way out with the flashlight.
Lewis knew that they couldn't have got out of the cave without Susan's glasses. He felt sorry for making fun of Susan in the past. When they met up with their classmates, Lewis told everyone what had happened. From that day on, there was no longer "Four Eyes" at their school.
