After the meal, the Time Traveller began to tell us about his journey into the future.
"I had been working on my time machine for several years," the Traveller said. "And finally, I began my journey. Once I stepped into the machine, I had a magical feeling. I saw the Sun rise and set within a second. The land changed, buildings rose and fell, and cities appeared and disappeared in the blink of an eye (一眨眼). I continued to push forward through time, excited to see what the future held.
"After a while, I stopped the machine and found myself in a beautiful garden. As I explored it, I noticed some small creatures watching me. They were about four feet tall, with large eyes, curly (卷的) hair and simple clothing. They seemed shy but curious (好奇的), and I came near them slowly.
"To my surprise, they were friendly and welcomed me into their community. They danced and sang in a language I couldn't understand. They called themselves the Eloi. They lived in a peaceful and simple world, with no need for work.
"Over the next few days, I discovered that they had no knowledge of history or technology. They lived only for the present, with no thought for the future or the past. I felt strange and couldn't understand how such a civilization (文明) could have come to be.
"In the evening, I noticed the Eloi seemed to be afraid of the dark. As soon as the Sun set, they hurried to their homes and refused to come out until morning. I wondered what could cause such fear."
