Yesterday something unusual happened to me. I went to the ATM at my bank to get some money. When I put my card in, I realized that someone had left a large amount of money in the machine—it was $500! It turned out that $20 was all she had for the rest of the month to live on. So I refused to take it. I couldn’t think about how poor she must be, but how generous at the same time!Finally, I decided to call the bank manager back to ask him to transfer $200 from my account into Edith’s.
Little by little, the staff in the bank continued to raise more money for the poor lady. I couldn’t believe it. My one act of honesty encouraged a large amount of generosity(慷慨) from one little old lady to the staff in the bank. How wonderful!
