A
This is a story from a meeting held by some people and two things in nature. We call it the Four-Sided Talk. Let's "listen to" everyone carefully and find out what they think about.
People: We have lived on the earth since ancient(古代的)times. The earth is our home. Now we regret what we have done to our home!
The earth: I am 4.6 billion years old. You humans have lived on my body for only 200,000 years, but you have brought a lot of trouble to me. I got a fever because of you! The ice on my head is melting quickly. My breath is not fresh anymore. You have polluted my rivers and oceans. I can't take it anymore.
The river: People always waste the water that I give them. They throw rubbish into me. Now I am becoming dirtier and dirtier. I can't provide clean water for people to drink. Many living things in me have died.
The old tree: I've lived here for hundreds of years. I used to be the tallest in the forest. But now, I'm the only one left. People cut down many trees to make paper and chopsticks. They destroy the homes of many animals. Now there are no trees to make air fresh. Many birds have left.
What the old tree said is right. Not only make the earth more beautiful, but also divide the earth. Now I drink the water from the river, but it is not clean. What's more, many people think that it is making many plants and animals die. People must drink this kind of water and get sick too.

A small town named Bundanoon in Australia has decided to stop the sale of bottled water(瓶装水). They say that bottled water can cause environmental problems. Too many resources are used to make bottled water. When people finish drinking the water, the bottles will be thrown away and go into dustbins. So they require local people in the town to stop buying bottled water and use tap water to drink. Visitors are encouraged to get water from water stations in the main streets, and fill the water in bottles that can be used again. The decision has been supported by all the shopkeepers in the town. Bundanoon is the world's first town that has got its shops to stop selling bottled water. Probably we should follow the example! Let's stop buying bottled water and use tap water!
