四、短文阅读
Animals in the wild must be very clever and quick to stay safe from danger. Just like when you play hide-and-seek(捉迷藏),animals have their own ways of hiding and staying away from things that might hurt them. Their ears, noses, and eyes are all very important for sensing danger around them.
Some animals, like rabbits, have big ears that can hear really well,so they can listen for any sounds that might mean trouble. Also, their eyes are on the sides of their heads, allowing them to see around without having to turn their heads.
Animals like chameleons can change their colour to hide from predators(捕食者) by looking very much like the trees and leaves they live in. Imagine being able to change the colour of the wall in your room to hide during hide-and-seek!
When some animals feel scared(恐惧的),they try to look big and scary. Porcupines, for example, make their spikes(刺) stand up. Some animals, like opossums, even act asleep or don’t move so that a predator will think they are dead and not fun to eat,and leave them alone.
When in groups, animals help each other out. Meerkats, for example, have one friend watch out for danger while the others look for food. In this way, there are always extra(额外的) eyes looking for safety.
By using their bodies and working together, animals have smart ways to stay safe in the wild!
