When Tom is nine, his grandfather gives him a birthday gift—a stamp(邮票)from Brazil. It shows a colourful bird called a toucan. Tom thinks it is beautiful and decides to collect(收集)stamps. At first, he only collects stamps from letters. But everything changes when he joins the school’s stamp club. The club members exchange stamps from different countries and share stories about them. Through the club, Tom learns that stamps are not just small pieces of paper but windows to the world.
Over three years, Tom collects over 1,500 stamps from 50 countries. His favourite is a Chinese stamp with a panda. He even makes a map to mark all the countries his stamps come from.
Tom spends weekends at the library reading books about world cultures(文化). “Stamps teach me geography, history, and even art,” Tom tells his teacher. His dream is to hold a school stamp exhibition(展览). With his teacher’s help, he shows his collection in the school hall this month.
Over 200 students visit his exhibition, and Tom shares the story behind each stamp. “This hobby opens up the whole world to me,” he says.
