I’m Lucy. When I was ten years old, I signed up for a summer camp for the first time. I had never left my neighbourhood before. The camp opened up a world of new people who didn’t look, sound or act like me. When I went home, I had become a totally different person.
The camp taught me, in particular, the ability to work together with others. At first, I wasn’t getting along with my fellow campers very well. However, I still needed to be a team member. I learned how to solve disagreements peacefully and how to communicate with others whenever I needed help. One day, I was told that I was to lead a song at the evening campfire. It was a big challenge for me. I felt nervous whenever I had to speak in front of a group, let alone sing a song! That night turned out to be life-changing. It helped me to become more comfortable in group settings. Later that night, I realised that, by having been able to overcome my fears, I had become a role model for the other campers.
As I grew older, I took part in many other camps. Through a variety of camp “jobs”, I picked up some important skills. I still remember once I was asked to mop the dining hall after dinner. Right when I thought I had completed the job, my supervisor(指导教师) kindly pointed out that I had left dirty mop strings all over the floor. He politely asked me to clean the floor again. Through this experience, I learned how to do a thorough job. I wouldn’t stop working at anything until I had got it right.
If you are ever given the option to attend a summer camp and are thinking about not going, think again. The experience is likely to transform your life and make you a stronger person in the process.

Her experiences in the camps helped her to get more skills in life and abilities about how to get along well with others. From her story, I've learned that the experiences in the camps can make us stronger. When we do anything, we shouldn't stop working at it until we got it right.

Our Oceans, Our Responsibility
June 8th was officially named by the UN in 2009 as World Oceans Day.
It is a day to raise people's awareness of protecting the oceans which are very important to human beings. Oceans cover about 71% of the Earth's surface. Without the oceans, no living things survive, humans included. The oceans produce over half of the world's oxygen and are home to a large variety of sea life. As junior students, we can protect oceans in our own way. We can take part by doing small things, such as collecting litter on the beach or avoiding pouring waste water into the oceans. We can also join in the voluntary activities projected by the ocean organisations. Every little effort counts. As long as we try our best, we will make a difference to the ocean environment.
