阅读下列材料,从每题所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Once there was an old man who was dying in a village. He wanted to leave a piece of gold to one of his three grandsons. He decided to give it to the only one who could do the noblest deed (最崇高的行为) in a week's time.
A week later, the grandsons—Peter, Bob and Mike returned to their grandfather's house to tell him what they had done.
"My grandfather," said Peter, "I gave half of my money to the poor people in the city." The grandfather said nothing.
"I saw a little girl fall into the river," said Bob. "Though I could hardly swim myself, I called out, took off my clothes, jumped into the river and pulled her out." The grandfather still kept silent.
Mike told his story. "I saw a man sleeping at the very edge of a cliff (悬崖)! If he moved a little in his sleep, the man would fall off the cliff! And the man was Jack, my enemy! He once said he would kill me with his knife if he had a chance!" said Mike. "But I moved close to him. I pulled him towards me and rolled with him away from the cliff."
"Ah, that is the noblest deed. Very few people want to save the lives of their enemies. The gold is yours!" said the grandfather.
