Ⅳ. 阅读理解。
Do you like doing chores? What do you think of doing chores? A new study shows that it can make you smarter.
The study was done by a team at a university in Australia. More than 200 parents and kids aged between 5 and 13 joined in it. Parents talked about how many chores their kids did each day and if the kids actually finished each job.
Tepper led the study. It showed that doing chores like cooking or cleaning was especially helpful to young people. “Kids who often cook meals or do the cleaning are able to do other things well, like problem - solving,” Tepper said. It also showed that self - care chores and family - care chores could greatly improve kids’ ability to think before acting. According to the study, 70% of girls made their own beds while 50% of boys made their own beds. However, 66% of boys took out the rubbish and only 43% of girls did that.
Tepper and his team were happy with what they learned. “We were really excited,” he said. At the same time, Tepper pointed out that chores sometimes seemed boring to kids, so parents should pick those that their kids enjoyed.
“Not all chores are boring!” Tepper added. “Find activities that your kids like. They will enjoy doing chores and can learn about healthy eating or the environment.”
